A good hitting instructor changes how an athlete practises, not only how they swing. That is what makes the difference over a season.
Ask about their teaching approach
There is no single correct swing. What matters is whether the instructor can explain why they teach what they teach, and whether they adapt it to the athlete in front of them.
Watch a session before committing
Most instructors will let you observe. Look at how they give feedback, how much the athlete actually swings, and whether the athlete understands what they are working on by the end.
Ask how progress is tracked
Video, notes between sessions, or simple written goals all work. Something should carry over from one session to the next.
Check the practical details
Session length, cost, cancellation policy, whether cage time is included, and how far in advance you need to book.
Ask about safety and supervision
For younger athletes, ask about supervision, warm-up and workload. Ask directly whether staff complete background checks. Some businesses state that they do; Placer Match records that statement as coming from the business and does not perform those checks.
