Terms of use

The rules for using this site. Plain language, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.

Last reviewed 2026-07-25

Not yet legally reviewed

These terms describe how the service actually operates. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer and should be before Placer Match operates commercially.

1. What Placer Match is

Placer Match is an independently operated local marketplace that helps people in Placer County, California find local businesses for a project. It is not affiliated with or operated by Placer County government.

2. We are not a party to your agreement

We introduce you to businesses. We do not perform work, employ the people who do, supervise them, or take part in your contract. Any agreement — including price, scope, schedule, payment and dispute resolution — is between you and the business directly.

You are responsible for your own due diligence before hiring anyone. See how verification works for what we do and do not check.

3. Listings and information

Listing information comes from the businesses themselves, from public sources and from our own records. It can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Verification records reflect a check at a point in time and can go stale.

Some listings are demo listings — clearly labelled fictional businesses used to demonstrate the site. They are not real, and no one should attempt to contact them.

If something is wrong, report it.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, harvest or bulk-extract listings or contact information.
  • Submit false, misleading or fraudulent information through any form.
  • Submit an enquiry you do not genuinely intend, or use forms to send marketing.
  • Claim a listing for a business you are not authorised to represent.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service.
  • Interfere with the service, including by overloading it.
  • Use the service to harass anyone, or for any unlawful purpose.

5. Content you submit

You keep ownership of what you submit. You grant us permission to store it and use it to operate the service — including passing a project request to businesses where that is the stated purpose of the form.

You confirm that what you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to submit it. We may remove content that breaches these terms.

6. Businesses

If you claim or manage a listing, you additionally agree that:

  • You are authorised to represent that business.
  • The information you provide is accurate and kept current.
  • You hold the licences, registrations and insurance your trade requires, and will supply current evidence on request.
  • You will not misrepresent your Placer Match status — a commercial membership is not verification, endorsement or approval, and must not be described as any of those.
  • You will not attempt to manipulate reviews or rankings.

We may unpublish a listing that breaches these terms.

7. No warranty

The service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that listings are accurate or complete, that a suitable business will be found, that any business will respond, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

We make no warranty about the quality, safety, legality, timeliness or outcome of work performed by any business listed here.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Placer Match is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service or from any dealing with a business you found through it.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

9. Third-party links

Business websites and other external links are outside our control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.

10. Commercial terms

Paid memberships and packages are described on the plans page. No payments are being collected at present. Specific commercial terms will be presented at the point of purchase and will apply in addition to these terms.

11. Changes and termination

We may change or discontinue the service, and may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the review date above. We may suspend access for a breach of these terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and the courts of Placer County, California have jurisdiction.
