How verification works

Verification on Placer Match means we checked one specific, checkable fact and recorded when we checked it. It is not a rating, a recommendation or a guarantee.

What we verify

Each badge on a business profile corresponds to one check. The badge says exactly what was checked, and the profile shows the date it was last reviewed.

Contact verified

We reached the business using the phone number or email address on this listing and confirmed it belongs to them. This does not assess work quality.

Website verified

We confirmed the linked website is controlled by this business. This does not assess the accuracy of claims made on that website.

Service area confirmed

The business confirmed the communities it serves. Coverage can change, so confirm availability when you make contact.

Identity verified

We matched the business name to a registration record. This does not assess financial standing or work quality.

License reviewed

We viewed a licence number supplied by the business and checked that it was active on the review date. Licences expire and statuses change — always confirm current status yourself before hiring.

Insurance reviewed

We viewed a certificate of insurance supplied by the business on the review date. Coverage can lapse — request current proof of insurance before work begins.

Target review interval: 180 days

Credential reviewed

We viewed a certification or credential supplied by the business. This records that a document was seen, not that we endorse the business.

What we do not verify

We want to be specific about this, because the gap matters:

  • Quality of work. We do not inspect jobs, review workmanship or assess outcomes.
  • Pricing or value. We do not evaluate whether a quote is reasonable.
  • Ongoing licence or insurance status.A “licence reviewed” badge means we saw a licence number and checked it was active on that date. Licences lapse, get suspended and get revoked. Always confirm current status yourself.
  • Background checks. Where a business states that its staff complete background checks, we record that as a statement by the business. We do not perform, commission or confirm those checks.
  • Financial standing, bonding or litigation history.
  • Staff identity. We verify a business, not the individual who arrives at your door.

How often records are reviewed

Each verification type has a target review interval, shown above. When a record passes its interval it becomes stale, and the profile continues to show the original date rather than implying a fresher check than we made. A business can also change between reviews without telling us.

Why you should still do your own due diligence

Verification narrows uncertainty; it does not remove it. Before you hire someone, we recommend you:

  • Confirm the licence number directly with the issuing authority.
  • Ask for a current certificate of insurance, naming you where appropriate.
  • Get the scope, price and timeline in writing.
  • Ask for references for work similar to yours.
  • Get more than one quote for anything substantial.

Verification is not endorsement

A verified business is not recommended, endorsed, approved or guaranteed by Placer Match. We do not accept payment for verification, and a paid membership never grants a verification badge. Commercial membership and verification are separate systems and are labelled differently everywhere they appear.

Something wrong?

If a badge, date or detail on a listing looks inaccurate, report the listing and we will review it. If it is your business, you can claim the listing to correct it.
